These waypoint locations are used more as respawn points if the player were to die to an enemy or boss.

This leaves the system seeming pointless as it cannot be used to cross the map to gather regional resources and then return to their base. However, they cannot do so with resources in their inventory. Players can teleport to and from these waypoint locations on the map. V Rising also features a teleportation system that is borderline useless. This leaves a lot of gameplay restricted to sitting in the player’s castle waiting for crafting to finish or just sitting in the shade of a nearby tree or rock until nightfall. While it comes off as a cool and unique mechanic at first, once the player starts to invest themselves in the game's resource collection, the sunlight mechanic becomes annoying. To my surprise, I began collecting resources from the environment around me, such as lumber and plant fibers. In excitement, I began swinging my first real weapon. Upon doing so, the game automatically equipped it for me. Even though I was new to the game, I felt familiar with it.Įventually, I collected the required material to complete the first quest: Collect 30 bones to craft a Bone Sword. This choice in the user interface, harking back to one as familiar as Diablo’s, made me feel like I understood the game right away. The bar at the bottom of the screen, which holds all of the player’s attacks and abilities paired with the gothic style of the game, brings a nostalgic feeling to Diablo.

The customization is very detailed in terms of skin and hair color but leaves much to be desired in terms of features and accessories. In character creation, the masculine body type the player can choose looks a little off-putting, however, I overlooked it as a style choice. You’ll need Stone Dust and Copper Ingots to make Whetstone, which should be no problem, as long as you unlocked the Grinder in the above step.Once the player chooses their server, they can begin customizing their character. Once you take him down, you will unlock the ability to make Whetstone in the Furnace. He does drop traps all over the floor during the fight, which can be cleared by using the nearby armor to turn invincible and break them.

Grayson isn’t a particularly hard fight, as his attacks are telegraphed and you will be given plenty of time to dodge. He’s found in the Bandit Armory, as marked in the map above, and he’s level 27. To make Whetstone, you need to use the Blood Altar to hunt down Grayson the Armorer. Once you get the required Whetstone, make a Grinder (under “refinement” in the build menu) and throw some stone in there to make Stone Bricks and Stone Dust, which you’ll need to make Whetstone. The enemies in the Bandit Armory range from level 20-30, so you’ll want to be prepared to duke it out if you head over there. Graphic: Julia Lee/Polygon | Image sources: Stunlock Studios While we did find Whetstone in random bandit camp chests, we found a ton in the Bandit Armory, specifically. You can loot chests, defeat enemies, or even break barrels and structures to get Whetstone. You’ll need to grab at least four Whetstone from bandit camps as drops in order to make a Grinder.

Our V Rising guide explains where to find Whetstone and how to craft more. However, you can find enough early on by looting camps. Getting Whetstone in V Rising is an awkward loop, as you need Whetstone to make more Whetstone.
